It actually happened...

The impossible happened to me Thursday evening. As I was uploading a huge file onto my server space through RBrowserLite, then WHAM! I get an error message. Somehow, that event triggered my Mac into a downward spiral. Either I couldn't access programs or I would just hang. I immediately moved my documents folder into my back up drive before I tried to do any troubleshooting. I rebooted a few times, ran fsck a few times as well...still no luck. When Walt got out of work, we headed to the Apple Store so that I can pick up a copy of Disk Warrior to do a diagnostic.

When we got home, we ran it. DiskWarrior rebuilt the volume, but I was still having the same problems. I even tried deleting and reinstalling the programs, but I keep getting the same error messages. Walt logged me out and logged himself onto the computer. Miraculously, he was able to access the programs that I coudln't access earlier. This only meant one thing...my user account was hosed. We created another account for me, and I copied the documents over to my new account. I thought that was all I had to do. Well guess what...I was wrong! The permissions on the documents still had my old info, so everything is still kinda fuckered. We up till 2am that night trying to reset the permissions so that I can access the files under my new account name. On Friday, I was able to get some work out, but we knew what I had to ultimately do. Since I still wasn't able to get some programs to work, we decided to wipe out the drive and reinstall Panther.

When I had upgraded to Panther back in November, I simply did an upgrade, not a clean install (which was recommended). I think that may have a big part to do with it.
