I'm tho thick....

I am sicker than a dog. I hardly get colds, but when I do, I totally get my ass kicked. I've been drugged up pretty good most of yesterday and today. I did manage to get Marcel's race resumes done.

My throat is killing me...cough...cough...and I also have developed this really dry cough. I've been cough sooo much I feel like I'm about to hack up a lung.

Yet...another first post...

Walt just got me this subscription to TypePad, since he's been noticing I've been dabbling in blogging. At first, I used Blogger, then I downloaded and installed Moveable Type, and I'm trying out the TypePad. I'm such a blog whore!

If the title of this entry sounds strange...this is my first blog entry using Typepad. Everything before today was either done in Blogger or Movable Type, which I had just simply imported in pretty seamlessly.

Cough, cough, sniff, sniff...

29612.jpg All this smoke and horrible air has totally worn on my body. Yes, I have a really bad cold. I've been basically sipping on Alvita's Ginger-Peppermint tea.

On the fire front, firefighters are still desperately trying to save Julian. Unfortunately, looks like resident's in Ramona will need to evacuate again. More tragic news today, a firefighter lost his life in one of the battles to save Julian.

Walt helped me set my computer back up today. I was really reluctant to do it yesterday, since the skies looked so bad, it was hard to tell whether there would've been a chance that the fires were going to head back our way. I was finally able to get some work done today.

The skies over here are definitely clearer today, but I can't help but feel horrible about it. When we know that the wind has helped it clearing out the air where we are, it also means that it's only pushing the fire further inland. Walt's family in Vegas has mentioned smelling and seeing smoke over there. There were mandatory evacuations today on Palomar Mountain. So far, 333,971 acres have been burned in all San Diego fires, 16 deaths, 1,523 homes destroyed.

These are some pictures my friend, Chris, took.

Bad air

firesat.jpgThe fires are still raging on. Santa Ana front is weakening and the coastal winds are getting stronger. In other words, it's pushing the fires away from us, but unfortunately, it's driving the fires further into the east county. Cuyamaca has been 90% destroyed. The big fear is Julian being burnt down.

The air quality is extremely terrible today. All day long, the skies were tinged with a brown cast and it's still been raining ash. My throat has been dry and scratchy, reminding me of my smoking days.

Walt thought it would be a good idea to get an air purifier for the house, since it totally smells like smoke in here, eventhough we've been keeping the windows closed. We went to five different stores, and sure enough...every place was sold out.

Firestorm 2003

Holy crap! The past 24 hours have been nothing but a huge emotional roller coaster. The fires have totally burned out of control yesterday. We had 4 major wildfires just in San Diego county alone. So far, over 200,000 acres have been burnt. Over 500 homes have been lost just in San Diego alone.

We had 2 really close calls yesterday. When the first close call came, it was burning in Tierrasanta, which is only 10 minutes away from us. As soon as we found out, we decided to pack our valuables. I've never experienced anything like this ever. As we were packing our important papers, photos, and sentimental items, I can't help but ask myself how does one decide which part of their memories do they take with them and what to leave behind, knowing that there's a chance that it will be lost forever? The second close call came when the fires hit Mission Trails, which is basically down the street from us.

I'm about to tear down the computer again. I'll update more when I have a chance.

The Ring of Fire

We woke up this morning at 7:30 and noticed there was a orange tinge of light peaking through the vertical blinds. The first thing that popped into my mind were wildfires.

Sure enough, I got up and found Walt out on the balcony taking pictures of the smoke. Southern California is getting hit with a few big wildfires. 3 of them are burning right in San Diego County. I look at the parking lot and can see cars, pool, grounds, and even our balcony floor covered with ash. There are 2 other fires burning up in San Bernardino and Rancho Cucamonga. According to the news, 250 homes are lost due to these fires so far.

This were taken at 9:50am.

I was able to move the entries I had over in Blogger into Movable Type. I did some research on importing the settings, but I keep hearing about all the problems that are on Blogger's end. Since I don't have that many entries, I figured it would be easier if I were to just copy & paste the entries into MT.

So far so good. Now, it's just a matter of going back and inserting pictures for certain entries.

I got to UTC Mall around 4:00. Much to my surprise...there was no one on line yet at the Apple Store. It is located where the Disney Store used to be. I had 2 choices to make...be the first one in line, or walk around and come back later. Well, with Sephora being right next door to the Apple Store made my decision a lot easier. I perused the aisles of various tubes and sticks filled with bright and colorful goodness. Of course, now that I'm not working, I want a lot of things. I contained myself and purchased the Sheer Luck lip/cheek stain from Lorac. They have stopped carrying Philosophy cosmetics, so I was out of luck getting my usual lip/cheek stain.

After I was done with my purchase, lo and behold, there were 2 people in the line. I figured I might as well just get on. This was 4:30. I was #3. Walt met me when he got out of work. At first the line wasn't really growing that fast. But after 6:30, that's when it started to grow at a more rapid pace. I've never been to a grand opening before, so this was really fun. The store clerks were totally pumped up and giving us high 5's as we were walking into the store. It is definitely a smaller store than the Fashion Valley one. The giveaway for the Panther release are dog tags. We basically picked up Panther and left from there. The special for tonight only is with a purchase of Panther, anything else you get from the store would have 10% off. Now, if we were in the market for a new computer, that would be really cool. They handed us these t-shirts that were packed in these cool tubes. We got out of there around 8:45.

Anyway, I'm totally exhausted right now.

2 major events today!

The release of Panther and the grand opening of the UTC Apple Store. I am determined to get my free t-shirt, so I plan to be there early and stand in line with all the other Apple geeks. The store doesn't open until 8pm. I'll probably get to the mall around 4 and meet Walt there. If anything, he'll find meeee in line.
